NERO 7 ESSNTIALS SOFTWARE
OK, I have no problem with a vendor trying to upsell, but announce that the product is half real and half 30-day trial in advance, and give me an option to uninstall the dead software chunks–I don’t need all this clutter. I won’t comment much on the functionality of the product, except for one item: DVD-video functions (Nero Vision and some other areas) work for 30 days, then display an expired message. What does this have to do with burning a DVD? (Nero, if you’re reading this, send me an answer–I’ll post it.)

So my DVD burner software includes a full indexing scan for files, also called ‘desktop search’, on by default, of all types (it’s on that ‘Files’ tab), with no system tray icon, and no obvious place to type in a search. O23 – Service: NMIndexingService – Nero AG –Ĭ:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NMIndexingService.exe There are only two new entries:Ĭ:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NeroCheck.exe Here’s the view–it’s ON by default, and installed without asking: But wait, there’s something–in the Windows menus, in the Nero group, I see Nero Scout. No new system tray icon appears, and no indication that I’ve installed anything more than a DVD burner. I restarted the computer, and went looking. Note the “Nero Scout” item at bottom left, unchecked by default.

Apparently it’s more than a DVD burning program, in the opinion of the publisher.Īt the install options, I again made no changes.

Test box for today is running an Athlon XP 1900+, Windows 2000 Pro with Service Pack 4, no antivirus or security software whatsoever, lots of memory and drive space, and not much on the hard drive.īefore the install, I ran Hijack This and added everything to the ‘ignore’ list, and ran CCleaner, and accepted every registry issue found–it’s a clean test box, so there wasn’t much.Īt the truly arrogant file options, I made no changes–Nero wants to be your program for everything related to content. Started with the new DVD writer.” All the drives in question were bundled with the OEM version of Nero 7 Essentials. If memory serves this is a message that displays after they have done a drag-and-drop of files from the hard drive (or other source) to the CD/DVD.I’ve been getting some very specific complaints about Nero 7 Essentials. This happens when they've gone halfway through the process and haven't told Windows to finish. Sometimes when Clients call and have not had success with writing files to CD/DVD and I open Windows Explorer there will be a blue band down the left side with instructions at the top top to write the files to CD. I haven't done this for a while so I may not have it all quite right. If you can then the process is likely with the software you are using or the process you are going through when attempting to write files to the DVD.Īnother thought that is sort of out in left field.

Can you browse to the CD in Explorer or My Computer and see files on a CD in that drive? If not, then you have come closer to solving the problem. can't remember if this has been covered.Ĭan you put a cd in the drive with a program on it and have it run setup? Or any cd with data for that matter. I see Blue Ray is making discs supposedly good 150-200 years. the only media I know, The desk top is 5+ years old with CD only and my little net book for e-mail & burning DVD. But nothing? It's either the drive or the bridge between the file and the drive is not being recognized.Īs far as archiving I use Memorex Light Scribe R+.

it would start then go off some where? and I would loose what was going on between the file and the download and the burn process? Thanks maybe it's me. It did the same thing with the pre-installed Nero Essentials. I should have said I have Windows XP 2009 version on my Net Book. But nothing? It's either the drive or the bridge between the file and the drive is not being recognized. While it is burning, you can check a 'verify' box and the program will compare the original with the copy.īeing an external drive should have no bearing, Imgburn recognizes both my internal and external burners. When the drive/disc comes ready the icon at the bottom will be active, click on it to burn the disk. Select the drive in the 'Destination' drop down box. Select the files you want to burn, or you can drag and drop them from explorer to the 'source' window. Launch the program, click the "Write files/folders to disc"
